However I find before you are allowed to play in the major tournaments and grand slams and get to play against the pros, the game can get a little repetative when you get to around level 13-15, and you have to keep playing 6 game sets, match after match just to rank up.
I find this is a great way to keep the game addictive. After you pass the learning process of the game and get good at the controls by playing in few matches, you will get xp points to rank up. You will be sticking with the character you created so make sure you spend some time creating the character, as you won't be able to change him/her in term of appearance (not the outfit but the physical features). There are a big collection of outfits you could choose from and more can be earnt from playing in the Career mode.
